Product Description
Designed specifically to enhance acceleration in a number of popular platforms, the Sprint Booster is an aftermarket electronic module that plugs in between the accelerator pedal and the engine control unit (ECU) in vehicles equipped with an electronic throttle control. Sprint Booster is an application-specific hardware based product designed specifically for your car. This device is engineered to improve acceleration on drive by-wire cars by continuously measuring and converting the digital signal providing the ECM (Electronic Control Module) with a new and altered signal. Many modern vehicles utilize electronic throttle control and more vehicles are going that way, especially performance and sports cars. In conventional throttle systems, the accelerator pedal is connected to the throttle by a cable. In electronic throttle control systems, the accelerator pedal is connected to a sensor that sends a signal to the ECU that operates the throttle. The ECU increases or decreases throttle effort based on your accelerator pedal input, however this doesn't always translate to instant response. Things like pedal sensitivity, stability control and traction control systems can vary on different vehicles and can also lead to larger lag in throttle response and acceleration when its go-time. Sprint Booster improves response, increases pedal input sensitivity and delivers more impressive off the line performance. It did not take 7 minutes like some of the reviews suggested. Maybe it would have been that short if I knew where everything is, but I didn't because the instructions were generic and did not help me locate the gas pedal wiring harness. Also, even with the flexible addition that was supposed to help with the installation in such tight quarters, it was a very tight fit. I've taken one star off for both of those factors, because I see it as the same thing - ease of use. Overall, it took me an hour to install it, and most of that time was used trying to plug it in with three fingers while positioning the flashlight with my mouth. Oh, by the way, this is all while lying on my back under the steering wheel in a very uncomfortable position. I still have a not in my back and shoulder. So, yeah, it is "plug and play" like the manufacturer says. But it's pretty difficult locating where you're supposed to plug it in, especially with their useless generic instructions. In fact, I found better instructions here: [...]-write-up-reviewAnd even when you find where you're supposed to plug it in, it's a tight fit and hard to maneuver it into the right position to plug it in, for anyone who wears a Large or XL shirt and who does not have petite hands. My suggestion is that you search the web for better instructions before even attempting it. The site I referenced is for a 2007-2012 Jeep Wrangler JK; I installed it in my 2012 Wrangler Sahara 2-door.A third note on the non-positive yet not quite negative side, is that they made the wiring that connects the switch really long. I haven't used the adhesive yet, because I don't know where to place it that will make the wiring less noticeable.Now to the good part. It does what it's supposed to do - it increased throttle input. And it's not an overpowering increase, as if you're mashing on the pedal all the way to the ground. The best way I can describe it is that, even at it's highest setting, depressing the pedal minimally reacts as if you're continuing to depress it. It may just be an illusion, but it's as if you don't need to worry about how hard to depress the pedal anymore. I love it!
