The coating is "grippy" enough so that friction alone can produce a good grip without having to use a death grip. The coating also seems to be able to take mild impacts from sharp metal edges without severing, so as long as they are used only on plug boots and rubber hoses they should be the last boot puller I'll need. The grips on the handles stay put as well which is a good thing being that the tools function is for pulling and twisting.

These are good quality pliers used to remove spark plug wires from spark plugs that have not been off for a while. These are not made to grip bolts, bend sheet metal or grip and hold something other than rubber covers on spark plugs.

only downside i see is that you could stab yourself on car parts while pulling the boot off. i did this myself when pulling a very old plug boot off.
